We speak with long-time activist and union leader John Reimann who breaks down the main reasons he has tossed his hat into the upcoming election for Mayor of Oakland. He noted there are two speeding freight trains headed our way on a deadly collision course. They are climate change and impending fascism. He feels that Oakland can play a key role in pushing back and even changing the narrative and direction around these situations. He also feels that Oakland’s working class should be better engaged and encouraged to execute a number of forward-thinking ideas and policies that are more in line with the political traditions of this city’s activist communities and away from the stranglehold of unbridled capitalism that has on many in this city.
In our interview, we address key issues like police and crime, houselessness the need for a 28-dollar an hour living wage, and why the proposed Howard Terminal Ballpark is a bad idea and would further cripple Oakland.
