(HKR-09-13-22) We hold a roundtable discussion with scholars, organizers, and activists from the UK and Ghana, which was once a British colony. Our guests include Twilight Bey, Paul Eme, David who live in the UK. It also includes Erin Ransom Ofari from Ghana who all talk in detail about the sordid history of the British Empire and how it upended many African, Asian, and Indigenous countries.
We talk about how remnants of the British Empire and monarchy are still deeply embedded in the psyche, laws, and education systems of many countries. We talk about the reaction that many are having to the Queen’s passing. Many see her passing as an opportunity to double down and push even harder for true liberation and self-determination. Others are nostalgic and see the Royal family as something to be celebrated. We talk about how such thoughts have come about. We also talk about the steps we need to take to improve our current situation.
