We sat down and spoke with Chairman Fred Hampton Jr of the POCC about the movie Judas and the Messiah winning an Oscar for Best supporting actor. In our conversation, Chairman Fred details the relationship and friendship he developed with actor Daniel Kaluuya who excellently played the role of his father, slain Black Panther leader Fred Hampton Sr.
Fred talked about being on the set every day with his mother and the types of struggles that were endured to make sure to get the story told correctly and respectfully. He noted how receptive and committed Daniel Kaluuya was as he described a number of occasions where Daniel accompanied him to hotspots within Chicago. He said that he and his mother Akua Njeri had a deep appreciation for the movie. They had a deep appreciation for the acceptance speech actor Daniel Kaluuya delivered.
We also talked about whether or not Fred and his mother felt the movie would leave a good impression and help open the doors for important dialogue around the legacy of the Black Panthers, Cointel Pro, and Fred Hampton Sr.
We start off the show by speaking with reporter Georgia Fort about the aftermath of the Derek Chauvin trial and the next steps she anticipates happening as the other 3 officers accused of killing George Floyd get their day in court. We also talk to her about the Duante Wright case and the push made by the community for former police officer Kim Porter to be charged with murder.
