We sit down w/ Hip Hop pioneer / The Father of Hip Hop, DJ Kool Herc, and talk to him about his upbringing in Jamaica and what it was like in the early days of Hip Hop. Joining us in the conversation is long-time journalist and Hip Hop Historian Mark Skillz. He talks with Kool Herc about his relationship with other pioneering deejays including, DJ Hollywood and Pete DJ Jones who he once battled. We talk about the music Herc played back in those early parties, the formation of his crew the Herculords, the naming of his massive sound system, whether Hip Hop was born in the South Bronx or West Bronx, and the difference between the burgeoning Hip Hop scene and the disco scene which frowned on early Hip Hop.
