HKR-(06-02-23) Macca Malik, also known as BGirl Macca, is a remarkable talent in the world of Hip Hop. Hailing from Philadelphia, her journey into the Hip Hop scene began through her older brother, who was highly regarded both in Philly and later in Germany, where he organized numerous shows. Macca’s passion for Breaking led her to train under the tutelage of Raphael Xavier, a revered B-Boy master from Philadelphia.
With relentless dedication and a drive to perfect her skills, Macca has risen to become one of the leading female competitors in the Breaking scene. Her accolades include winning the Redbull BC One B-Girl national qualifier and securing a principal B-Girl role in Jill Scott’s “Shame” music video. Notably, Macca made history as the first female representative of the Bboyworld team to compete in France at the Breaking World Series.
Currently, Macca is actively involved with the Olympics in preparation for the debut of Breaking in 2024, which will take place in France. Her involvement in this groundbreaking event showcases her significance and influence within the Breaking community.
During the esteemed NCORE conference held in New Orleans, we had the privilege of interviewing Macca. Her participation in the conference was not only limited to performances but also included hosting workshops. One of her workshops centered around highlighting the Black experience in Breaking, shedding light on the dance form’s roots that are sometimes overlooked as Breaking gains global popularity.
Macca Malik, or BGirl Macca, exemplifies the spirit of dedication and talent in Hip Hop culture. Through her achievements and commitment, she continues to make a profound impact on the Breaking scene while championing the recognition of its Black origins.
