A few weeks ago the state of Texas passed a crazy law that would place a bounty on those who got an abortion in violation of that law. If that wasn’t enough, that same law now allows ordinary citizens who suspect someone got an abortion or someone like a doctor, parent, teacher or friend helped or even advised them to get an abortion could sue that person with no consequence. This means that someone can drag someone to court and even if the lawsuit is outrageous or unwarranted (frivolous), they won’t be on the hook to pay lawyer fees.
We speak to Aimee Arrambide, executive director of AVOW Texas about the details surrounding this law and how folks on the ground are fighting back.
We also speak with longtime Reproduction Rights activist Laydua Salazar who also weighs in on this discussion about restrictive abortion laws. Salazar who is also a DACA recipient talks about the recent decision by a Texas judge to repeal DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Salazar details what’s at stake for people like her and 600k others who were brought to this country undocumented as children..
